Shine On

The ranks of those who can be considered pioneers of bluegrass music have slowly dwindled over the past few years.  One voice has remained steadfast throughout a career that spans more than half a century.  Though age tends to have a somewhat adverse effect on most of us, Ralph Stanley demonstrates stamina that many half his age only dream of.

With more than 150 recordings to his credit, it's hard to imagine how Dr. Ralph is able to find new and fresh material.  Stanley's unpretentious singing style lends itself well to the gospel music that he loves so well and Shine On is a showcase of his varied and seasoned talents.

Of the 14 songs on this project, Stanley sings lead on 12 of them. Ralph II handles the other two quite nicely!  You'll also hear some fine guitar work from the venerable James Alan Shelton.

Although the music here is fresh, the listener is apt to notice a distinct sense of familiarity.  Songs like This Little Light Of Mine are sure to bring back memories of children singing in the old church.  Produced by Ralph Stanley II, this album will no doubt shine on as one of Ralph Stanley's classics.

Other songs include King Of all Kings, The Roses Will Bloom, The Old Church Yard, Sing Songs About Jesus, Palms of Victory, The Lowest Valley, I'll Fly Away and several more.
