From the album liner notes...
This collection has always been one of my favorite live recordings of the Stanley
Brothers. It is unique in that it is not a live concert performance nor is it a radio show. It is Carter and Ralph Stanley, fiddler Ralph Mayo and mandolin player Curley Lambert
performing twenty old-time songs and tunes in a studio setting at the end of a very long day. While no one directed this session per se, only one request was made of the Stanley
Brothers and that was that they sing and play songs that were not commercial in nature; or, to put it better, that they do songs that were outside of their regular stage performance
repertoire. Consequently, we get a rare treat as Carter and Ralph let loose on a canon of songs that could be best described as personal favorites, many of which came from their heroes
of several decades earlier. Selections from the Monroe Brothers, Grayson & Whitter, the Carter Family and others are commonplace among this set of recordings. A few had
actually been recorded before by the Stanleys but at the time this tape was made in 1956, the majority of these songs were of an off-stage nature for Carter and Ralph. -- Gary B. Reid
Visit Ralph at the record table to purchase and read the rest of the story... It's a must-have rare treat for patrons of live performances. A personal thank you from Ralph for
fans only - not sold in stores!
